Newt Gingrich: Is he fit to be president?

Newt Gingrich recently crushed Mitt Romney when he won 40 % of the vote to Romney’s 28% in South Carolina according to Huffingtonpost.  Up until this time it seemed that Mitt Romney was going to become the Republican candidate, but this surprising result has changed the race.  Even with this unexpected turn of events, I think that whichever Primary becomes the Republican candidate will have a good chance at beating Obama -  just because of how many ways he messed up during his presidency.  Not only did Obama manage to triple the United States’ debt, but he also implemented many policies that few agree with.  Overall, Obama gave pretty speeches and lots of promises, but did little to follow up his words.
This should leave the door wide open for anybody to oppose him, but none of the Republicans’ candidates seem to be men that can fit the job.  For example, there is Newt Gingrich.  Here is a man who is being accused of wanting an open marriage by his ex-wife.  Maybe these accusations are true and maybe they aren’t.  Perhaps this is just some lie she made up for revenge or attention. Who knows?  But still, the fact that these accusations are out there are a cause for concern.  Then there are his campaigns.  HE claims that he is a good debater and that will help him beat Obama, but does this country really need somebody who is good at debating?  Or wouldn’t it be better to have a president that could follow up on his promises and make good things happen for the citizens of this country.  But no, he is just good at debating.  His campaigns and debates also basically consist of him bashing the other contestants to make himself look better.  When he was accused of not knowing how to run businesses, his reply was that he had owned four of his own small businesses and helped balance the federal budget several times.  He was trying to prove he was capable of running the country, but one question I have is why did he own four small businesses?  Did they keep going out of business, or what happened to them?  Also, this does not prove in any way that you can run a country because a country is not a small business.  It’s not even a big business.  It is a country, and this country takes a lot more to manage than the skills of a small business owner.  He also claims on his website that because of his leadership, the Congress passed the first balanced budget in a generation.  While I support balanced budgets, I find it hard to believe that this happened just because of Newt Gingrich and his “leadership.”  And once again, just because he can balance a budget, that does not mean he is fit to run a country.

  1. Although I have some concerns with your view on Obama, I completely agree with your opinion that Newt Gingrich is unfit for the title of President of the United States. The bashing of other candidates says much about his character and makes me question his ability to defend himself without comparing himself to others. I also agree with the idea that his four small businesses could be an indicator of how he manages a company. Gingrich's businesses may be able to recover from screw ups and lack of management skills, but this country cannot. Gingrich's ability to argue well and "run four small businesses" says nothing about his questionable ability to run the United States.
