One thing that is being talked about this year more than any
other year doesn't actually have much to do with politics. It actually affects all of us living at this time. What is this
topic you say? It just so happens to be the end of the Mayan Calendar
and/or an apocalypse. Many people think that this is
a ridiculous theory and won't come to pass, but some are taking it
seriously. The government of the State of Wyoming is one of those groups.
On Friday, state representatives in the house advanced a bill to prepare
for a possible nationwide economic or political meltdown. An article
on newser.com stated
that the State was prepared to take such steps as issuing a state currency,
drafting a statewide army, and acquiring an aircraft carrier. Am I the
only one that thinks this is ridiculous? I mean, Wyoming with an aircraft
carrier? What's next, Wyoming with aircrafts!? And in order to
launch aircraft, they're going to need a coast too! This portion of their
apocalypse emergency plan doesn't seem to be thought through very well.
Several of the Wyoming legislators have spoken in favor of this current
bill. To quote state
Rep. Lorraine Quarberg, R-Thermopolis, "I don't thinkthere’s anyone in
this room today what would come up here and say that this country is in good
shape, that the world is stable and in good shape — because that is clearly not
the case." Several other legislators agree with views like hers.
Maybe all 50 states should be working on their own doomsday bills. . .
just in case. Personally I don't put much stock in all the doomsday theories. But if they are correct, I guess we have Wyoming to look forward to as the new "top dog" beings as they're the only ones taking actual steps to a apocalypse plan.
Though I think the doomsday theories are hard to believe, I give congratulations to Wyoming for thinking outside the box. Passing a bill for end of times emergencies does sound crazy but let me just play along on there side for this one. Even if the world does not end in 2012, the bill could have its uses in today's nuclear age where darn near all the large powers in the world control plenty of nuclear weapons. So what if World War 3 should break out and the world would end that way. If that would be the case then I would personally would want to be in Wyoming because when the world has ended they are going to be the ones with the last laugh.
ReplyDeleteI honestly can't comprehend how ridiculous this all sounds. A doomsday plan? Please, let’s throw the crazy people believing this stuff into even more of a panic. If the government is starting to believe that the world will end in some fiery explosion, then how are we supposed to react? Does Wyoming really believe that their small inventory of preparation will save the state from an entire world collapsing around them? Let’s take a step back into reality and realize that if the entire world and everyone in it is doomed, Wyoming probably will not survive no matter how many aircraft carriers they acquire.
